Moose Struck and Killed by Truck in Southington

The female moose was struck by a tractor trailer on I-84 about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to reports.


A moose was struck and killed by a tractor trailer truck on Interstate 84 in Southington early Sunday.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says a small female moose was struck by a tractor trailer truck about 4:30 a.m. on eastbound I-84 between exits 31 in Bristol and 32 in Southington, according to WTNH. It is unknown if the driver suffered any injuries.

On Saturday, there were reports of a moose sighting near the Cheshire/ Waterbury line along I-84, according to NBC Connecticut. It not known whether the moose in Cheshire is the same moose that was killed.

DEEP said it believes this is the first moose that has been killed on state roadway this year and that it wasn't possible to donate the remains to Hunters for the Hungry. The moose was removed by a state DOT crew from the road.
