Men Charged with String of Burglaries in the Region Face Further Charges in Avon

Avon police issued a warrant for David Kawiecki's and Sebastian Kuziak's arrests at Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday. Kawiecki was also found guilty in 2002 for six burglary cases in Berlin

Two men already facing charges for a string of burglaries in Farmington, West Hartford and other Connecticut towns are facing similar charges for related thefts in Avon.

Avon police served warrants on David Kawiecki, 38, and Sebastian Kuziak, 29, Tuesday on charges of first- and second-degree burglary, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit each and one count of second-degree criminal mischief for an incident on Nov. 27, 2009.

The warrants were served in Hartford Superior Court as both were appearing for court proceedings in other cases. Police set their bonds at $200,000 each.

Police said the men were involved in a burglary in 2009 at a home along Vermillion Drive and stole belongings and cash valued at $33,116. The incident included theft of 48 items including a car, jewelry, four laptops, a desktop computer, hardware tools, an external hard drive and $700 in foreign currency.

Although police recovered approximately $12,601-worth of property, victims lost the remaining $20,515-worth of belongings. Police did not disclose the identity of the homeowners and have not released the address.

Both men have an extensive criminal history in Connecticut and are currently facing charges in other burglaries from throughout the region during that time.

In 2002, Kawiecki was found guilty of third-degree burglary in Avon and sentenced to two years in prison. In May of that year, he also was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison following two cases of first-degree larceny and second-degree burglary charges in Southington. The three incidents occurred in 1999 and 2000, according to court records.

Kawiecki was also found guilty in 2002 for six burglary cases in Berlin and several charges in New Britain that included burglary.

Court records available at the state's judicial website show Kawiecki is currently facing charges in six pending cases including an incident in Farmington, two in West Hartford, one in Cromwell and two in New Britain. All six cases stem from burglary and larceny incidents in 2009 and 2010.

He remains in custody at the Garner Correctional Institution where he is being held in lieu of $855,000 in bonds, according to the state Department of Correction. He has been in state custody since February 2010.

Kuziak is currently facing charges in three Farmington incidents in 2009 and 2010, as well as cases stemming from additional incidents in West Hartford, Southington, Cromwell and New Britain.

Kuziak has been incarcerated at the Hartford Correctional Center since February 2010 and remains in custody in lieu of $359,200 in bonds.

Both are due back in Hartford Superior Court on June 14.
