Wallingford Police said that Giovanni Policard, of 51 Liberty St. in Meriden, was struck by a New Haven to Springfield passenger train Friday morning.

Wallingford Police spokesman Lt. Marc Mikulski said the department received a call from Amtrak at about 9:46 a.m. that an engineer said the train may have hit something while passing through Wallingford.

Upon arriving at the tracks near 1001 North Colony Rd., Amtrak Police and Wallingford Police reportedly found the dead body of a man close to the Route 15 overpass.

The state Medical Examiner examined the body on scene and transported it to the main office in Farmington, according to police. The manner and cause of death has yet to be announced.

This incident comes just a month after another Meriden resident was killed on the tracks in Wallingford. On Dec. 5, 2011, Lynn Patricia Bickford, 43, was hit by a shuttle bound for Springfield near the Meriden-Wallingford town line. Her death was ruled a suicide by medical examiners.
