Gas Smell Evacuates McGee Students

But fire officials found nothing out of the ordinary upon response.

Students were evacuated Friday morning from McGee School when a gas smell was detected.

According to Fire Marshal Steve Waznia, fire officials responded when the smell was detected.

"I wasn't on the call but I did check with the Officer In Charge and they found no odor," Waznia said. "It was reported as an odor of natural gas. No gas was detected but kids had to leave the building.

"The building was evacuated prior to our arrival. Any report of a gas odor would warrant an evacuation by the school administrators. They did a good job."

The evacuation brought back bad memories of frequent smells in the building last year before work started to clear up the problem.
