Former Wireless Zone Employee Arrested

Berlin Police say Manchester man stole Smartphones and then sold them.

On Wednesday, April 13, Berlin Police Detectives made a warrant arrest of Jason Ryans, 26, of 69 Imperial Drive, Manchester, for Larceny in the First Degree by Common Scheme, 20 counts of Computer Crime in the Fifth Degree/Misuse of Computer System Information, and 20 counts of Identity Theft in the Third Degree.

Ryans, a former employee of The Wireless Zone, 544 Deming Road, in Berlin, was identified by his employer as having stolen 75 high-end, cellular Smartphones from the business by making at least 20 fraudulent inventory computer adjustments.  Ryans is alleged to have used other fellow employees’ names when making the adjustments in an effort to deflect attention away from him.

In an interview with investigators, Ryans admitted selling the stolen smartphones to individuals that he had met through the Internet. He admitted receiving in excess of $17,000 from the sale of the stolen cellular phones. The Wireless Zone estimated the retail cost and subsequent loss of their merchandise to be over $31,000.
