Father Michael Scheduled To Appear In Court Tuesday

Assistant State's Attorney asks court papers to remained sealed.

St. Paul Church priest Father Michael Miller, who was arrested on five felony counts of risk of injury to a minor and a misdemeanor obscenity charge on July 12, is scheduled to appear before a judge in court on Tuesday, July 26.

As part of an ongoing investigation, police served a warrant earlier this month on Miller, 41, pastor of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Kensington.

Miller was processed and released after posting a $150,000 bond. His case was ordered sealed by the court and no additional information has been released since then.

If it is up the prosecutor, it will stay that way.

Christian Watson, Assistant State's Attorney, filed a motion on Monday with the court to keep the court papers closed due to the delicate nature of the case.

According to the Berlin Police Dept., a judge is the only one that can decide if the warrant and court papers can remain sealed. If the judge decides to unseal the court documents, the information in those documents will be released and available for public consumption one to five days after the initial court appearance.

Miller had been hospitalized since July 4 when he was taken by Life Star helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Mystery has surrounded the circumstances of his illness or injuries, though the Hartford Archdiocese acknowledged recently that Miller was under investigation and that the Franciscan Friars and Archdiocese were cooperating with the investigation.
