Early Morning Fire Displaces Family Of Four

Home on Worthington Lane sustained smoke and water damage.

 

The Town of Berlin Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 24 Worthington Lane, shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday. 

Berlin Fire Department Chief James Simons arrived on scene to find a heavy smoke condition.

All residents had vacated the residence after being awakened by a loud noise in the basement followed by the activation of the smoke detectors throughout the residence. First arriving firefighters made entry into the residence and after a short search found a fire in the basement. The fire was put under control within 15 minutes. 

A resident of the home was transported to the hospital for evaluation and two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The residence sustained fire damage to the basement and smoke damage throughout.

Town Social Services responded to the scene to assist the family temporary housing and support. The Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene and investigating the fire.

The American Red Cross is helping the family of four – two adults and two children – with financial assistance for emergency food needs after a fire this morning on Worthington Lane in Berlin.
 
The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits, containing age and gender appropriate personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. Children's kits include a stuffed toy.
