(Updated) Three Injured in Head-On Collision, Chamberlain Highway Closed

Police have closed the Chamberlain Highway from Butler Street to the Meriden town line following a head-on collision involving three vehicles, police said.

Updated: 8:48 a.m.
Three people have been hospitalized following a serious three-car collision on the Chamberlain Highway near the Meriden town line Thursday morning.

Berlin police remain on scene of the accident, which occurred just north of Butler Street's southern most intersection with the highway as members of the Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate. The Chamberlain Highway is expected to remain closed in both directions.

Berlin Deputy Police Chief John Klett said all three motorists suffered injuries, one which is considered serious after the accident occurred when vehicles heading in opposite directions collided head-on just before 7 a.m.

"Three vehicles were involved and all three operators were taken to the hospital by ambulance, one with serious injuries," Klett said.

The location of the accident has allowed police to use Butler Street as a detour, but the Chamberlain Highway will remain closed through much of the morning as officers investigate, Klett said.

Area motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes through the morning and expect delays.

No further details are available at this time.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Traffic Officer Robert Canto at (860) 828-7082.
