Burglaries Have No Steady Pattern

Some have come at vacant properties.

While there have been several burglaries around town in recent weeks, Berlin Police say that there is no one person carrying out all of them.

Many of the burglaries have come at vacant properties where there are no residents.

When the properties are vacant, the burglars have time to go through the house and take what they want.

In the case of a recent burglary on Middletown Road, copper piping was taken. The thieves had enough time, because the property was vacant, to take down drywall and take out the copper piping.

"It's not unusual for that to happen," Berlin Deputy Chief John Klett said. "I wish we had a list of all the vacant properties in town because maybe then we could keep an extra eye on them."

Klett said that while there have been several burglaries, there has never been any contact between the thieves and residents in the homes. If that were to happen, the burglars would then likely be charged with the more serious charge of home invasion.

As has been said before, residents are asked to be extra vigilant and keep an eye out for any person or vehicle or activity that are out of the ordinary. If residents see any of these things, call 9-1-1 or (860) 828-7080.
