Berlin Resident, A Bridgeport Police Officer, And His Dog Are Dragged By Car

Officer Kevin Gilleran and dog 'Titus' suffer injuries.

Bridgeport Police officer Kevin Gilleran, who lives in East Berlin, was injured Thursday night when a hit-and-run driver hit him and dragged his K-9 partner Titus.

According to a press release from the Bridgeport Police Department, "Lt. Kevin Gilleran suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene while his K-9 Titus was injured and taken to Shoreline Animal Hospital for treatment."

The Bridgeport Mayor's office told Eyewitness News that Lt. Kevin Gilleran and his K-9 Titus were responding to a domestic situation on Seaview Avenue. During that investigation, traffic was blocked to one lane. A car that was being delayed by the lane closure, attempted to drive through the closed lane.

"It was a tough night," said Kim Gilleran, Kevin's wife. "The dog lives with us and you couldn't ask for a better dog. He is the best. When I got the call I was very worried but Kevin said he was OK. Then my thoughts turned to Titus.

"He got dragged and had some head and body injuries that were pretty serious. He's OK though and he's home here resting now. Everyone is going to be all right but like I said it was very scary."

Kim Gilleran said according to her husband, the car turned off its light and rammed through the traffic stop.

"They still haven't found the person or people who did this," she said.
