Berlin Fire Department to Dedicate on Thursday a 9/11 Artifact from World Trade Center

The department received in February a piece of steel taken from the World Trade Center remains.

The Berlin Fire Department will dedicate Thursday a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.

The Berlin Citizen reported the town will be dedicating the artifact during a ceremony at the Town Hall rotunda on Thursday, June 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. Starting Friday, the piece of steel will be on display at Town Hall, the Citizen reported.

The 9/11 artifact's journey to Berlin began in 2009, when the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced it would allow organizations to petition for steel from the World Trade Center.

In 2012, the town was in the process of redesigning its flagpole and it decided to petition for a piece of the steel.

The artifact, weighing 95 pounds, arrived on Feb. 18.

Visit the Berlin Fire Department's website for a larger image of the artifact.
