NE Nightingales Health Tip in the Cold

Tip of the Week:

On cold winter days, it can be very easy to indulge in high-calorie, high-fat comfort foods like juicy burgers, macaroni and cheese, and ice-cream.  Although there are some health conditions that in fact recommend eating high calorie foods, we have a tip for those who are healthy and for those who aren't recommended to eat such foods.  There are some ingredients that are not only incredibly beneficial for your heart, but also help fill you up so you are not left feeling hungry.  Such ingredients include
1) omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, tofu, flax seeds, brussel sprouts, and walnuts),
2) legumes or high fiber and high protein foods (beans, peas, and lentils), and
3) whole grains (barley, corn, quinoa, rye, wheat, and oats).

Keep yourself, your loved ones, and those you care for healthy by cooking with lots of these ingredients.  And stay warm!
