Berlin Sets Christmas Tree Pick-Up for Jan. 13

Have a live Christmas tree? Wondering how to get rid of it? The town has you covered with a collection scheduled later this month.

Inside your home, adorned with decorations and colorful lights, a Christmas tree is a symbol of the season that brings joy and fun. Once the holiday is over, however, disposing of the tree can often be a headache.

Berlin residents will have the opportunity to put that post-holiday headache aside on Jan. 13 when curbside tree pick-up comes to town.

Fresh cut trees will be collected curbside on Jan. 13, the Public Works Department announced Thursday, but residents should also be aware of rules and regulations to assure the trees are not left behind.

“Trees must be at least six feet away from your automated collection cart so as not to interfere with the disposal of your household refuse,” said Public Works Secretary Lecia Paonessa in a press release. “Following the collection of all the trees, town forces will be chipping the trees creating mulch which will be available for public use and pick-up at Sage Park.”

Trees will also be accepted for recycling at the Town Recycling Center on Massirio Drive during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Saturday's, starting Jan. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For further information on the collection of trees and mulch pick-up, contact the Public Works office at (860) 828-7022.
