Gizmo Gives a Challenge! (and Other Doglet Thoughts...)

Gizmo, Patch's Central CT Top Dog and blogging doglet, blogs about area events and pet rescue efforts. Sources say he also enjoys hamburgers.

And hi.  I’m Gizmo, Patch’s (3.7 pound) blogging doglet.  Now listen, I hope you are all recovered from that big storm we had!  My thoughts are with all of you who are still feeling the effects from Hurricane Sandy.  I was fortunate to be able to go to the storm shelter at VCMS again this year, and spend time there as a therapy dog helping people who were frowning smile again, at least for a moment. It’s times like these that give us pause to look around and reach out to those who are less fortunate, right?  I saw a lot of that this past week!  One fren was without power for almost 24 hours when she found a generator on her front step.  Someone who didn’t need it anymore set it there.  Another fren is an elderly woman who lives alone, and her yard was a mess! Her family had arranged to come the next day to clean up the branches and leaves for her.  When they pulled into the driveway, the yard was pristine – not a twig on the ground.  Some neighborhood elves had taken it upon themselves to do the clean up!  It was so exsillent to see all the helping hands, not only from the Red Cross and other organizations, but from the community. So, what’s my challenge? Keep
reading!

Speaking of helping the community, did you know the Manchester High School Senior Class had a food drive for our frens at MACC last Friday? It was Senior Night at the soccer game (which we won!), and instead of spending time with each other just hanging out, they decided to do something really good to help our community!  Can you believe it?  In fact, there are so many great things happening at MHS now! It is a very exciting time of positive change.  Oh and did I tell you?  MHS adopted me!  And I am the new Staff Reporter for their new
exsillent website, www.MHSRedline.com !  The website is already in the top high school websites in the state, and they are going for number 1 in the nation.  I hope you can come to some MHS events this year.  I might see you there!  Still don’t know what my challenge is?  Almost there!

And now it’s time for GIZMO’S CHALLENGE:  Did you know you don’t have to wait for a food drive to donate nonperishable items to the Manchester Area Conference of Churches Food Pantry?  My frens there at 460 Main Street told me they are open Mon. and Wed. 1-5, Tues. and Thurs. 8:30-noon, and Fridays 8:30-6:30.  Or you can even call 860-647-0440 to arrange a time to drop off food.  In fact, I am going to set my paws out on a limb here and challenge all of you who read this!  That’s right, ALL of you.  Don’t live in Manchester?  Then find a food pantry near you and drop off some food this month!  You can buy some extra canned goods, or just find what you’re not using in the back of your cupboard.  Bag it up and take it on over.  Tell them Gizmo Patch’s famous blogging doglet sent you!  Then post in the comments section that you met the challenge.  Let’s see how many of you can do it.  I bet a lot of you can and will!  Cuz we’re frens!

I have one last bit of exsillent news.  Patch reader Jenna Rodriguez  commented on one of my blogs about a canine rescue in Simsbury called Boot n Kit.  You can visit them on Facebook here:  http://www.facebook.com/messages/#!/bootnkit?fref=ts They are a nonprofit, all volunteer, no-kill facility.  I am so happy Jenna told me about them, because now I get to raise awareness and funds for them through my nonprofit, Gizmo’s Frens, Inc., on Saturday, November 3 from 11 – 2 at the Wethersfield Pet Supplies Plus.  I hope to see some of you there!

Hey listen!  Did you do my challenge and bring some food to the food pantry?  Or do you know of an exsillent rescue group?  Or have you seen some of the great things happening this year at MHS or in the community?  Leave a comment!  I love hearing from my frens!

Sined, The Gizmo.

Gizmo I had to do your challenge. Even though I live a long ways away from you I had to still do your challenge. I donated 3 bags pastas and can goods to the food drive at my work. I plan to do it again before it is over. You are a excellent blogger and I very much enjoy reading everything that you write.
