New Britain Walk to Defeat ALS

The Walk to Defeat ALS® is The ALS Association’s national signature event.  In Connecticut, with three Walk events scheduled around the state, the 2013 Walk to Defeat ALS® is on track to raise a projected $420,000.  The Walk is the top fundraising event for the ALS Association Connecticut Chapter and the source of approximately half of the Chapter’s annual operating budget

    ALSA-CT delivers a broad range of vital programs and services, at no charge, to ALS patients and families throughout the state of Connecticut.  Last year alone, ALSA-CT provided much-needed help in coping with the impact of this terrible disease to 234 families across the state.   Our services include:

    Þ Loans of durable medical equipment to enhance mobility and communication;

    Þ Transportation for wheelchair-bound patients to and from medical appointments and important family functions

    Þ Professionally facilitated support groups for patients and families;

    Þ Financial assistance for special needs and family caregiver respite;

    Þ A special Children’s Program that helps young ones come to terms with a loved one's diagnosis and maintain a sense of normalcy.

    We rely completely on generous donations from individuals, foundations, local businesses, corporations, and community groups, and on the success of special events like the Walk to Defeat ALS®. A portion of all funds raised also supports national advocacy efforts and cutting edge global research to find effective treatments, and someday, a cure.  Our ultimate goal is a world without ALS.
