Jane Austen Birthday Tea

Please join the Jane Austen Society of North America's Connecticut Region for a delectable assortment of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and desserts, accompanied by a variety of teas, and a presentation by our keynote speaker. Robert G. Dryden, author of Jane Austen for Beginners and Global Jane Austen, will present a talk entitled “Inventing Jane”:
Jane Austen is one of the most popular authors ever to write in the English language. Considering that Austen's life and works play out in modern popular culture like a reality show, the outside observer would think that the facts of Austen's life were documented down to the last de-tail. Ironically, the opposite is true. That is, due to significant gaps in our knowledge, the historical Jane Austen exists as we invent her. A walk together down the Jane Austen tourist trail will attempt to separate fact from fiction.

Also, for your shopping pleasure, a selection of books and other items will be available for purchase at our travelling bazaar before and after the tea.
Period or festive costume is encouraged but certainly not required.
In order to reserve your place, registrations must be received by November 30, 2013. Download the accompanying PDF flyer, fill out the registration form, and mail payment to the address indicated on the form.
