Chicago-Based Organist Marsha Foxgrover
To Present Concert March 3 At Area Church
BERLIN – Nationally acclaimed organist Marsha Foxgrover will present a selection of masterworks at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St. (Route 372), in Berlin at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3. The concert, titled “The Power and The Glory,” is presented as part of the annual Bethany Covenant Music Series, and will be performed on the 38 rank, three-manual Casavant pipe organ in the church sanctuary.
The program will include works by Charles-Marie Widor, Johann Sebastian Bach, Leo Sowerby, Eric DeLamarter, Louis Vierne, Joe Utterback, Crawford Gates, Samuel Barber and Joel Raney. Selections will represent a variety of styles spanning three centuries of organ composition.
Foxgrover’s recent solo concert at the Mormon Tabernacle was very well received, and her newly-released CD, “Barber’s Adagio and a Concert of Organ Classics,” has been widely acclaimed. A Los Angeles Times reviewer wrote, “…she has to be one of the most fantastic players around. Her playing is clear, vital, and her technique is phenomenal.”
A resident of suburban Chicago, Foxgrover travels extensively, presenting concerts and workshops for the American Guild of Organists, churches and universities. An honors graduate of the University of Southern California with a Master’s Degree in Music, she has studied with Robert Rayfield, Robert Prichard, Ladd Thomas and Irene Robertson in organ, Lillian Steuber in piano and Alice Ehlers in harpsichord.
Foxgrover currently serves as organist at both the Wheaton Bible Church in West Chicago and Batavia Covenant Church, both in Illinois; is a member of the music faculties of Rockford College and the College of DuPage, and was the 2010-11 Artist-in-Residence at Aurora University, all in Illinois.
A reception will follow the March 3 concert at Bethany Covenant Church, which is located off Route 9 North at Exit 21. All concerts in the Bethany Covenant Music Series are open to the public and tickets are not required. Child care is provided and a free-will offering is received.
