The Gathering Room is proud to present local guitarist, Randy Collins in a benefit concert on Saturday, December 8th at 7:30 pm.  The concert will be held in a private home in Glastonbury, CT, but is open to the public and all proceeds will support the non-profit organization Shine on Sierra Leone to sustain a school in Adama Barrie’s home village. Suggested donations are $25 for adults and $10 for students and seniors along with a non-perishable food donation for the local food bank and reservations can be made by calling (860) 633-5057 or e-mailing patticole@spectralvoices.com.  Directions will be forwarded at that time.

Randy is an accomplished acoustic guitarist who is known not only for his mesmerizing tapping style, but also for his beautiful, melodic lines.  Despite clocking in 20 years as a driver for UPS, he has managed to simultaneously perfect his craft and along the way promote Lag guitars and perform at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).  Randy has also been featured in both Acoustic Guitar magazine and Frets Magazine.  He has been a frequent guest performer in The Gathering Room.

In July, Randy’s UPS truck was struck by a car, resulting in a horrifying crash.  If not for the quick intervention of Life Star he would have lost both his legs if not his life.  After multiple surgeries and a lengthy stay in the hospital, Randy has defied the odds and is up and moving under the power of his own rebuilt legs.  Diving into his music helped him through the painful weeks of convalescence.  While more surgery and healing await him, this concert will officially mark Randy’s triumphant return to the music world and a chance for all of us to celebrate his remarkable recovery.

Randy will entertain the audience in the comfortable candle lit living room of a private home where guests will also enjoy homemade refreshments.  While sharing good food, good company, and great music, the audience will also be helping to complete Adama’s Dream.  Thanks to the generosity of many and the expertise of the charity Shine on Sierra Leone, a school is up and running in Adama Barrie’s home village of Kamathudugu, Sierra Leone.  We are now raising the funds to sustain the school by paying their teachers and providing books and supplies.  The school is serving approximately 200 children in 4 classrooms.  This is the first generation of children in the village who will be literate in its 170 year history.
