I would first like to wish everyone a happy new year and to take a couple minutes to introduce myself. My name is Eric Lunt, I am a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor (CGFI) through the Titleist Performance Institute and a board certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). I am currently finishing up graduate school to become a physical therapist assistant as well. I was born and raised right here in Berlin and still call it my home today. I absolutely love golf! I have been playing since I was 12 and Timberlin Golf Course has been like a second home to me. I played on the Berlin High golf team my junior and senior year, and my goal is to find the time to play a lot more this summer!
I feel I have the best of both worlds with backgrounds in rehabilitation and fitness. My job is to simply make people better golfers through physical training. Now don't get me wrong, I am in no way qualified to give golf lessons, I let the professionals do their job and I do mine. But I feel that with a team approach, a player can see even further improvement and make the game more enjoyable to them.
We have Tiger Woods to thank for changing how the public views golfers. Golfers are athletes!!! The reason why he was so dominant in his early days was because while everyone else spent hours at the range, he was in the gym. He eventually created his own worst enemies as other top players jumped on the fitness bandwagon.
My goal with this blog is to educate people on the benefits that fitness can bring to their golf game and more importantly, their overall health. I will try to keep things fresh and touch upon different topics such as diet, nutrition and exercises that are specific to certain parts of the game.
Please check back frequently as I will be offering tips and exercises to help you during the off season. Hopefully mother nature will be kind to us after October and we can get a early start to the 2012 golf season!
