Hurricane Sandy: Berlin Info Center

Many precautions being taken as Hurricane Sandy roars into Connecticut. Here's all of the information we have so far.

 

Here is the latest update on what the town is doing with regrds to Hurricane Sandy.

  • Town Hall and Berlin Peck Memorial Library closed at noon today.
  • The Emergency Shelter in town will be open at 3 p.m. and the EOC will open at the same time. The shelter will be at McGee School – 899 Norton Road.
  • Schools have been closed for Tuesday.
  • The Town Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night is postponed. The agenda will simply be tacked on to the next regularly scheduled Town Council meeting agenda.

If you are going to the shelter it is a must that you bring these essential items:

  • Bring all essential medications (in their bottles if possible)-WILL BE REGISTERING WITH NURSE AT SHELTER AND MEDICATIONS WILL BE MONITORED
  • Eye Glasses
  • Bring pillow and blankets
  • Bring snacks
  • Bring cards, games, books, magazines, children’s toys
  • Bring change of clothes-recommend warm up suits to sleep in (warm and comfortable)
  • PETS IN CRATES—Bring pet food and water dish
  • Bring phone number of relative to call in case of emergency
  • Bring small flashlight if available
  • Bring special foods if on a special diet
  • Baby supplies if needed (portable crib, play pen)

Berlin has decided to delay the following items for collection this week due to Storm Sandy:

  • Refuse and Recycling normally picked up on Tuesday October 30th will be picked up WED October 31. Residents are requested to have their containers out at curbside by 12 midnight Tuesday October 30. The schedule for Wednesday to Friday pickup will NOT change.
  • Leaf Collection for the week of October 29 will be delayed one week and will resume on November 5 to November 9. The regular schedule as posted on the Town’s website (at www.town.berlin.ct.us) will resume November 12.
  • Bulky pickup will be cancelled the week of October 29.  Residents are asked to call and schedule pickup with Trash-Away which will resume the week of November 5.
