TELL US: Is Your Street Plowed? When Did It Get Plowed?

Many in Berlin are complaining that their streets were still not plowed hours after the blizzard - has yours?

There was an awful lot of snow still left on Berlin streets Sunday night. The cleared streets have been of no consolation to many in the community.

When asked on Berlin Patch's Facebook page Saturday and Sunday night if your streets had been done yet, there were over 120 responses and one thing was made clear - there's still an awful lot of digging out for the town to do.

Perhaps that is a good question in itself. Plows are out there all over town, but there have also been reports of plows and trucks getting stuck in the deep snow as they attempt to plow many streets.

Unfortunately at Berlin Patch, we couldn't tell you when your street will be plowed. That doesn't mean we can't offer a chance for your to sound off and share your thoughts, experiences and concerns. Maybe even a thank you to the drivers or neighbors.

So we are asking you this morning to your street is plowed yet? Have you seen any plows in your area of town? Are any stuck?

Share with your friends and neighbors on Berlin Patch what parts of town have been plowed and which still need to be in the comment section below.

Pepin Lane, off of Mill St in East Berlin, was plowed last night around 9:30pm. The guys did an awesome job of clearing. i was surprised it took so long to plow, but there was a ton of this white "stuff". I was perfectly happy to sit in my house one more day and call out to work because there was no way to get out of the house...so can I complain they came??? :)

Pheasant Run was plowed at about 4:00-4:30 On Sunday. There's still a ton of snow in our cul de sac but the driver did the best he could to make an accessible path for us.

Casner/Tree Hill wildemere Area
Sunday plows(bobcat and Pick-up) 1st arrived about 3:15 for initial pass. They returned about an hour later and continued for the next couple of hours. Then larger plow and bucket loader arrived to remove large piles. They did an exceelnt job and did not bury anyone who was at the end of their driveways Still don't understand the Mayor's guarantee statement though, completely untrue that every street was plowed when we were sleeping.

Saw Mill Dr neighbors got together and cleared one lane Sunday morning using personal snow blowers. It was great to see everyone working together.

It took my husband and I two days to clean our driveway and snow from our roof, old school way (shovels). Our road was cleared with one pathway on Saturday night at 8:30 but yesterday they came and made the way wider. I am very greatful to everyone who is out there helping. My parents who live in New Britain, live in a three family home which share a driveway with my aunt cannot get anyone to come and clear their driveway and yard. There are 5 sick elderly people in their mid 80's and older along with my disabled brother who live there who are incapable of shoveling. We would have helped but we did not finish ours until late last night. The man who has been plowing for them blew his transmission. I just wish I knew someone who could plow for them. Imagine being in their shoes.

We live on Alling Street which was clear even on Saturday morning.

Just like you, everyone is entitled to their opinion. To be fair and equitable, a newspaper has to report on the good and the bad. Don't like the opinions that differ from yours? Don't read them. After all, it's not really all about you.

@berlinlifer - Sorry to disagree with you but NO ONE is taking advantage to complain. You yourself indicate that we were somehow INVITED to do so. That invitation was extended by our Town Officials by their own actions or should I say INACTIONS. And THANK GOD for Bob Mayer and The Berlin Patch. WE THE PEOPLE have a vehicle to express our views and exercise our RIGHTS of FREE SPEECH. And since The Berlin Patch is the technological advancement of FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, Mr. Mayer has done an OUTSTANDING job during this crisis. Town Officials have not. And no one is criticizing the workers - we are criticizing their BOSSES. And rest assured ALL MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES are protected by GENEROUS UNION CONTRACTS which not only pay them well but dictate the number of hours of work and rest. And just so you know it took, 4 of us and average of 8 hours with shovels and machines to clear our own home, and 2 homes of elderly family members. They CHOSE a Municipal Job, not I. And for your information - I LOVE BERLIN! I love her so much that I am willing to criticize her when her Town Officials let the residents down. That's what America is all about.

Parish Drive, Alling Street and Grove Hill were plowed. The plow driver did an amazing job and made sure not to pile the snow in front of driveways. For those of you complaining about you should not thank them; you were home all weekend with your families, you got to sleep in your own bed at night, you sat down to dinner to a hot meal... They did not.
Debra Tubbs February 11, 2013 at 02:21 pm
Patterson Way - only one lane down the middle as of this am.
RICHARD WITT February 11, 2013 at 02:29 pm
Webster Ridge residents couldnt wait any longer and on Sunday afternoon got together with 8 snowblowers and did the entire street themselves, it was nice seeing eveyone helping one another including the people who were stuck in their homes and needed their driveways done.

Alling Court was plowed once last night, I'm a at loss for words, our neighbors got together and cleaned our driveway and the hole street. It's awesome to know that we are souranded by good people. This is when I realize good people still exist. Thank You neighbors and Thanks to the people who are working long hours away from their families to clean this mess.

The door has been open all weekend. This article had one goal, to see what streets had been plowed and which still needed work. Read below since you might have missed his part of the story.

@Robert Mayer - Bob, just to repeat myself - THANK GOD FOR YOU AND THE BERLIN PATCH. As you can see, for some of us, you were our ONLY source of information. When THE TOWN was saying nothing or better yet MISLEADING US (unintentionally) you were our ONLY outlet! It is far better to post and vent as an outlet for your frustration. I am new to posting to The Berlin Patch but in this crisis, I am glad I found this site and was allowed to express my view. Thank you again for all of your insight and information!!

Wildem Rd, has been plowed it is pretty tight and hard to get onto the street with the girth of this heavy snow fall, but we are grateful that we have the one lane open on our road. Thank You to our City workers for busting their rear ends to get us all up and out back on our streets.
John February 11, 2013 at 03:45 pm
Payloader arrived on Castlewood Dr around 2:00pm yesterday and made a path halfway up until it began slipping. The payloader returned around 7:30pm along with a plow. Due to theri combined efforts they were able to clear the road decent enough to drive on. I commend them for their efforts and their apologies for the delay and nowhere to place the snow. We offered for them to drop the payloads on our front lawn if need be. These workers have put in long hours and should be thanked rather than chastised.
Nancy Driska February 11, 2013 at 03:53 pm
Thank you to the municipal employees who plowed Spring Street yesterday around 4 p.m. We now have a bucket loader moving snow out of the cul de sac to open up the street. Thanks again!

Hamilton, Ledge, Webster Ridge, and Mildrum got done Sunday around 2:30-3:00. @Richard, I admired your snowblower convoy as I shoveled my roof, quite a site. Nice work!! Three of us where about to do the same thing and meet up with you when we got the news the plows just showed up. I want to thank the plow drivers. Yes, it is the profession they choose, but nearly everyone that complains won't be able to handle the hours these folks work. Besides, being homebound for only 2 days wasn't bad at all.
Lisa Skates February 11, 2013 at 04:00 pm
Love the Patch it infroms me of local news&amuses me w/peoples"freedom of speech"I read,"were you plowed out/not&when and residents were complaining that there're still not,"not an invataion to add to the complaining! It never seems to amaze me on how quick we are to compalin and how long it takes to give out a complement, whether or not you think the town workers are doing a"good"enough job or not,the bottom line is there's almost 3ft of snow out there and no where to put it! Yes, I'm sure the workers are getting paid overtime(weekend rates) and did choose this job, not everyone has a "fluff job" and thank God,because we need people to do the labor work & with ANY job it's nice to be"thanked"for YES doing our job,it's just nice to be thanked and appreciated for doing something well! When we finally saw a plow late Sunday morning we gave him a water,he was very apprecaitive! I heard from a few friends that a couple neighbors got together and cleared their own streets. These conditions seem to bring out the best and the worst in people.I believe that Berlin was spared with power outages,so we had power/heat,could have been a whole lot worst!Thank you Mr. Mayer for delivering the Patch to my computer every day,to apprecate the good in most people & the ones that need to get a job where they're appreciated so they'll know what it's like to be! As I TRY to teach my children"if you don't have anything good to say don't say it at all"there's enough bad out there without adding to it!
Dr. Mike Maroon February 11, 2013 at 04:01 pm
Watch Hill has 1 lane open as of late last night. There is so much snow and no where to put it. I'm grateful for all the folks who are putting in extra hours to get the roads open and help us get back to normal, but it's going to be several days before all of this snow can be moved. Be safe and go slow.

A chance to discuss this historical weather event along with ALL huMAN responses is productive toward planning for the next predicted -or not- event. Communication breaks down when huMANs start to slinging mud.
For us as a huMAN race to expect that the almighty dollar will save us is irresponsible. In occurrences like this we need to speak responsibly toward one another to improve and plan for the next "what if". Many residents came together to help one another. And the town worked to clear our roads. It was broadcasted throughout the storm that it was a big one a dangerous one and one that would take days to clear. No- Berlin CT -was not specifically mentioned - but Berlin is IN CT. I'm not surprised by the complaints- for many reasons. Pressure to report to work in these economic times is overwhelming. Despite the closure of all roads - some HAD to get out for reasons. Furthermore - people tend to get anxious when "stuck". This can increase over time as no one is being updated on active local response. I have dear friends and relatives on LI; I actually was able to look up which streets were being cleared in real time. Amazing concept. CL &P analyzed their deficits in prior storms and now can trace exactly where trucks are at all times and update customers in real time. I thank the crews who have been working hard these past days. Stay safe all.
JMP February 11, 2013 at 06:16 pm
Neighbors and hard-working plow drivers - you all should get awards from the rest of us!
JP February 11, 2013 at 06:19 pm
Some of Dayl Dr. cleared by snowplow convoy to one lane on Sunday morning.... about 5pm Sunday a small bobcat and regular town plow came through and opened it up a bit....
Thank you to the town crews for coming down the street and you work in general.... I know it was a tough go, don't listen to the rest of the old fogies on here. True, maybe there are improvements that can be made or better ways to do things, but they were/are doing the best they can with what they have. Not any different than your regular job where one learns from something that may not have worked very well to do it better next time.

if you left berlin why are you on the berlin patch?
William Mayer February 11, 2013 at 06:57 pm
When you want to call out someone have the nerve to use your real name. It,s easy to type a nasty comment when there are no consequences. The title of the article was let us know when you were plowed out. People took this as a way to vent their frustrations. The town employees have done a great job.
D.D. February 11, 2013 at 08:20 pm
I understand that the town has to plow when and where they can but I have two concerns. the first is that the town sat at idle the day after the storm this is understandable to point. The crews did the best they could overnight and needed to rest. Toward the end of the day after no more town trucks came down Worthington Ridge. That evening a neighbor of mine whom works for the Town of Berlin was using a large back hoe tractor to clean up his own driveway . This struck me as odd and appeared to be a Town owned tractor.I know he does not own this tractor. today now that all the snow is extremely heavy the town is plowing Worthington Ridge and dumping all the snow into our driveways that we just cleared out. shouldn't this have been done when the snow was lighter and easier for the Towns trucks to push? There appears to be no concern for the elderly from the town. Maybe next time there is a significant snow storm our town might think of a better time-line to clear the streets.
Caroll Cyr February 11, 2013 at 11:12 pm
Toll Gate is plowed! Thank you for all your hard work. This was quite a large storm and you all a great job. I saw neighbors helping neighbors around town. There is still more to do so thank you in advanced for serving our town.

Clock Shop got plowed late last night. My terrific neighbors snow blowed a car width up to Circlewood during the day yesterday. THANK YOU!

@Pete
Would you thank a fireman for rescuing you, or a police officer for helping you on the side of the road, or possibly a coach of a kids team ??? "CUZ" they are only doing their job also!!!
JP February 11, 2013 at 11:33 pm
Are you smoking something?.... yes I would because it's called going above and beyond.... Yes, it's their job, but you recognize people for things like that. No different than private industry.
