CL&P: Hunters, Be Careful near Power Lines

It’s hunting season, and CL & P has issued a special message for those who enjoy the sport: Please take care when hunting near the company’s power transmission rights-of-way.

In addition to cutting through open spaces to create a path for New England’s electricity supply, these rights-of-way also offer a rich habitat for an abundance of wildlife such as white-tail deer and game birds, making them prime locations for hunting. But the utility company wants sportsmen and sportswomen to keep in mind that utility crews also work in these wooded areas.

“With the popularity of hunting on the rise, and space to hunt on the decline, it is especially important for people to be aware of all activities going on around them while outside,” said Bruce J. Bolger, Director of Safety at Northeast Utilities, parent company of CL&P, in a news release. "We’re happy the public and hunters enjoy our rights-of-way, and we want to make sure everyone out there is safe.”

Utility workers wear high-visibility clothing and hard hats while carrying out work such as transmission line operation, maintenance, construction, and land surveying in the transmission rights-of-way on a regular basis, according to CL&P. If you’re a hunter, please watch out for them.
