Chef’s Equipment To Move Into Site Of Proposed VIP

Salina hails it as another important move in economic development in Berlin.

Berlin Mayor Adam Salina announced that Chef’s Equipment will be locating at 717 Berlin Turnpike in Berlin.

“Chef’s Equipment’s decision to locate at 717 Berlin Turnpike is great news for Berlin," Salina said. "The Town is continuing to work toward its goal of rejuvenating the Berlin Turnpike corridor. This project will bring over 14,000 square feet of prime retail space back on line. Chef’s Emporium is a great use for the building and it will add a new ingredient to the mix of retail stores on the Turnpike.”

The address 717 Berlin Turnpike has been in the news for quite some town as the Town of Berlin kept a proposed Very Intimate Pleasures (VIP) store out of that location citing its sexually oriented business (SOB) ordinance and zoning regulations. The owners of the property filed suit and there is still one case making its way through the court system. Under the SOB, the business would have been too close to a residence as it abuts the Webster Heights neighborhood.

The owner, Dominick Martino, has decided to use the space for his other business, Chef's Equipment.

Chef’s Equipment (www.chefsequip.com) adds even more magic to your cooking and dining needs with the announcement of an all-new concept store in Berlin.

Yea, that sounds fabulous and is the type of retail not only desired but suitable for Berlin! I will certainly be a regular customer.

YES! I will definitely be going there. I am going to be needing to replace some things again after having sold my restaurant a few years back and always looking for chef supplies and even small things for bigger get togethers. Nice choice indeed!

So, all along, the owner had a more suitable business, but decided to fight to bring in the VIP? Let the building stand almost vacant for a couple years, on principle?

I guess the owner got tired of paying Dan Silver. I knew he owned Chef and never could figure out why he had to foist a sl eazy businesss on us when he had another valid use for the building.
