Chamber Award Winners Announced

CARSTAR named Business of the Year.

By Katherine A. Fuechsel

Each year the Berlin Chamber of Commerce looks for nominations of businesses and individuals within the Berlin Chamber Community to honor at the Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony.  Criteria for these awards varies from those who jump right in and participate with the Chamber in the first year as a member to those who have been long-standing businesses.

The Town of Berlin also honors those who have chosen to serve this community, develop this community and those who have chosen not to leave this community by bringing their business to Berlin or expanding an existing business.

This year the Chamber honored the following…For being an active New Member of the Year and significantly contributing to chamber programs and events, Ryan Kavarsky of No Name Tortilla Grill.  For beautifying an eyesore in the business district, the Beautification Award went to The Baltic Restaurant.  Two winners were honored for 50+ Years in Business, McCue Mortgage celebrating 62 years and Royal Machine & Tool Corp celebrating 59 years in business.  The “William S. Thomson Community Service Award”, was named after the late President of the Chamber Board who exemplified the term community service, went to Lenny Tubbs of Kensington Auto Ltd. for many years of volunteer service with several groups and in many capacities.  Employee of the Year Award went to a long time employee of New Britain Transportation who has been with the company for 37 years – Frances Drouin.  The final award is the Chamber’s most prestigious award, Business of the Year Award, in which a company is honored for their commitment to the Berlin Community as an ethical business owner or community volunteer.  The winner, CARSTAR of Berlin, far surpasses these expectations having been nationally recognized and awarded within their own trade for superior customer service and skilled body repairs.

The Chamber honors companies and individuals each year.  The time to start being considered for recognition is now.  One misconception is that you need to have been a member of the chamber for a long time – not true.  Your professional manner and significant participation within the community and/or the chamber will not go unnoticed.  The only stumbling block is that next year when the chamber solicits for nominations, you will be up against some tough competition.  Ther are some great, dedicated individuals in the Berlin community.
