Why did you start your small business in Berlin, with history and what spurred your entrepreneurial spirit?
We originally moved to Berlin from Hartford. Berlin was beautiful area that seemed to be growing and developing at an impressive rate. It wasn’t easy being the “new kid” in town. Berlinites tend to be skeptical of newcomers. But after earning the towns trust through integrity and outstanding service the business did thrive.
When people think of your business what sets you apart from others?
Two words- professionalism and family values. At Dynasty you deal with gemologists, watchmakers, and goldsmiths. The people talking to you at the counter are the people performing the work on your jewelry and watches. When you ask for advice we give it. Also we treasure our customers. You are not a number or a dollar sign at Dynasty. We take your individual feelings and situation into account when a doing a job for you. Finally if you ask for a service that is ill advised we will not hesitate to tell you so. We’d rather lose a job or sale than tarnish our reputation to make a buck.
What are you doing to attract or retain your customers during the economic recession?
We’ve done some TV and newspaper advertising but find that most new business comes from word of mouth recommendations, and we’re just fine with that. Also we offer very fair prices on quality jewelry and host invitation-only special events with incentives several times a year to reward our loyal customers.
What’s the most important ingredient in your success?
Be honest, be meticulous, stand by your work, and treat your customers how you would like to be treated.
Where would you like your business to be in five years?
In five years we might like to open another location in Connecticut. But that requires finding employees who share our dedication to the watch and jewelry trade and our values and high standards of customer service. Without those qualities it just wouldn’t be a Dynasty Jewelry. In that case we’d be just as happy with one store serving the Berlin area as we have for the last quarter century.
