Berlin High Assistant Principal Leaving For Watertown School System

Janet Parlato will be Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Watertown Public Schools.

Janet Parlato, Assistant Principal at Berlin High School for the last five years, and a 20-year faculty member at BHS, was officially named the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Watertown Public Schools Monday night. 

Her last day at BHS is August 9.

Parlato earned her Bachelors Degree from UConn in English Education and her Masters from UConn in Curriculum and Instruction.

"I have a strong interest in instruction and curriculum development," Parlato said after being officially approved for the job. "It has been an interest of mine to help development for instructional effectiveness and I'll be able to do that in this position.

Parlato, who lives in Cheshire, became an English teacher at Berlin High School in her first job out of college. She has been assistant principal for the past five years.

"There are a few things that I will be responsible for in my new position," Parlato said. "I will be in charge of implementing the common core state standards for K through 12 in the school system. I will be looking at instructional impact in the classroom and developing assessment to student learning. I will also plan professional development for the teachers and administrators."

Parlato said while she is looking forward to her new job she will miss Berlin High School.

"It was a tremendously difficult decision," said the mother of two. "I will miss the students, the staff and the parents of Berlin. I'm sorry I'm going to miss the renovation of the high school. I know the new building will show off not only the talents of the teachers but the students as well."
