Farmington Bank Community Concert Series Features 11 Free Performances by Simply Swing

Stops will include Flag Day in Berlin, Southington, Farmington, West Hartford and Avon.

Farmington Bank is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Farmington Bank Community Concert Series featuring 11 area performances by Simply Swing, a Connecticut-based swing orchestra specializing in favorites from the Big Band and Swing Dance eras.

"We at Farmington Bank are pleased to offer to our communities the wonderful American tradition of enjoying free concerts throughout the summer," said John J. Patrick, Jr., chairman, president and CEO, of Farmington Bank.  "Budgets in many Connecticut towns and cities are still feeling the impact of last year's damaging storms. Sponsoring events such as these concerts are important to Farmington Bank. As we grow throughout the region we want to continue to maintain and strengthen the links to the communities we serve," Patrick added.

Simply Swing is a 10-piece ensemble specializing in the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie; vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole and Diana Krall; and high energy Swing Dance favorites.

"We love to get people moving," said Simply Swing's featured vocalist Vivian LaRosa. "Our summer audiences can't sit still. We always see toes tapping, people swaying and singing along from their blankets lawn chairs and if there's a patch of pavement - couples are dancing," she added.

The series will kick off on Thursday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m., with a special Flag Day performance at Veterans Park in Berlin. "Given the occasion, we're planning several special numbers to honor this special day and our veterans," said Simply Swing's featured vocalist Vivian LaRosa.

"We're thrilled to have Berlin host Simply Swing's initial performance of the Farmington Bank Community Concert Series," said Tina Doyle, Director of the Berlin Senior Center. "We've wanted to bring Simply Swing to Berlin for a couple of years and thanks to Farmington Bank's generosity it is going to happen. We're buying small American flags to pass out to attendees to commemorate the Flag Day concert," said Ms. Doyle. The Berlin Senior Center will serve as a rain site for the concert.

The series performances include: June 20, 7 p.m., Southington Town Green; July 5, 6:30 p.m., Unionville Center Gazebo, Farmington; July 8, 7 p.m., Hubbard Green, Glastonbury; July 10, 7 p.m., Rockwell Park, Bristol; July 24, 6:30 p.m., Norton Park, Plainville; July 26, 6:30 p.m., Town Green, Burlington; and July 31, 6:30 p.m., Keeney Community Cultural Center, Wethersfield.
