Berlin Artist Has Her Hands Full

Word of mouth referrals keep Burns-Bartholomew very busy.

Sarah Burns-Bartholomew can never remember a time when she wasn't fascinated by art.

Burns-Bartholomew graduated from Berlin High School in 2002 and from Central Connecticut in 2007. Chances are if you've been in any of the school buildings in town, you have seen her murals on the walls.

"I had some great teachers at Berlin High School that really inspired me to love art and keep working on it," she said. "I loved doing art on my own and have worked on large convasses and large murals."

She works part-time as an assistant pre-school teacher at St. Paul School in Kensington and painted an almost three-foot high school logo in its foyer. She has also done a large mural at Hubbard School and is working on one in the library at Griswold School.

"I think it's great to have these themes on the wall of the schools because I think it enriched the learning experience when you have these visual cues to help your imagination," she said.

She was recently featured in a newspaper story after she and her husband made scultures from bowling pins and displayed them in an exhibit called "Fresh Outta the Gutter: Art on Bowling Pins" at Paris in Plantsville.

"I'm usually a painter and my husband is a graphic designer but we decided to try it," Burns-Bartholomew said. "He did an abstract and I did a gnome, dressed up like a bowling pin. It was a lot of fun."

Burns-Bartholomew said her husband has been a huge support system for her.

"He has a great eye," she said of Ryan Bartholomew, who she went to high school with. "He can always look at one my paitings or murals and tell me what he thinks it's missing. He has also designed my website, which looks great."

Burns-Bartholomew's goal is to open her own gallery but she is taking it slowly. She has started Ageless Green Studios.

The mission as Ageless Green Studios is to provide the highest quality mural and art services conceivable. Ageless Green Studios specializes in mural painting - intricate or simple, Tromp L'oeil or abstract.

She has been commissioned to do custom work for people since she was a child, but the big step was making it official. So finally, two years after graduating college, she marched herself down to the local town hall to make a name for herself. Enter Ageless Green Studios.

"Life is all about growth and adventure, new experiences and pushing boundaries," she said. "I can pretty much do anything with your wildest ideas and start the process of making it your reality. Paintings, drawings and murals are a few of the things that can make your home truly yours."

Burns-Bartholomew is extremely busy and can actually barely keep up with her work load just by word-of-mouth referrals. She can only do so much since she is one person.

"My goal would be to have an actual gallery in a public space where people could come to view art," she said. "I would love to teach art classes but still do murals and paintings.

"I am just seeing where it takes me right now. We are kind of in uncharted territory here. Most people that go to Central get a degree in teaching art. I didn't go into Art Ed. I am following my intuition and trying to make decisions that will be the best for me and my husband and hopefully for our gallery."
