Need Ideas for School Vacation? Let the Library Help!

The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has several programs scheduled over the next week to help offer opportunities to local youth (and help for parents).

School vacation is now just a little more than a week away and with cold days and long nights ahead, many parents and frantically looking for ways to keep their children busy and entertained.

Not to fret, the children's department at Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has you covered.

Cathy Nelson, children's librarian, said the library will have a wide range of opportunities during vacation week, including the following:

Winter Crafternoon
Monday, Dec. 23
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for children in grades K-5.
Drop-in while supplies last. Create your own unique craft.

Family Movie

Thursday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m.

Despicable Me 2, for all ages. Drop-in only.

Family Miniature Golf

Registration required. Call for a tee time beginning Dec. 9. A fun time for the whole family: nine holes using a few books, foam blocks, and even a dryer hose to create obstacles, traps, other hazards. Each golf hole is named for a popular children’s book. Titles include: It’s a Book, Peter Rabbit, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Make Way for Ducklings, The Little Engine That Could, One fish – Two fish – Red fish – Blue fish, and Where’s Waldo.

“I heard about a Connecticut Library doing this several years ago – and I’ve wanted to do it every since," Nelson said. "I think it is going to be a lot of fun.”
