Library Sets Children's Activities Schedule

Storytimes program continues each week.

 

Storytimes are a half-hour program featuring stories, fingerplays, songs, and a short movie. Each week an early literacy skill will be highlighted. There are 6 early literacy skills: print awareness, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, vocabulary, print motivation, and narrative skills.  No registration is needed for these programs   
          Tuesday 1:30 for 3 - 6 years
          Wednesday 10:30 for 18 months through 35 months 
          Thursday 10:30 for all ages
          Thursday 6:30 for all ages
 
The theme for February 28 to March 1 is cars and trucks
The theme for March 6 to 8 is Good Morning – Good Night
The theme for March 13 to March 15 is pets
 
A Mother Goose program for babies is held on Wednesdays at 11:30.  No registration is needed for this series of programs. Share  books, music, bounces, and fun with babies.  
 
Playtime – Friday 10 a.m. to noon - Drop in – no registration. Weekly throughout the year. Opportunity for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to play and socialize together with parents in the large meeting room of the library. 
 
 
Nutmeg Books – Award night for Children in grades 4-8 who have read all 10 books in the Nutmeg Reading program. The Nutmeg Books are 10 books selected by Connecticut Children’s and School Librarians. Trophies will be awarded in March 7 at 7 p.m. Over 70 children have read all 10 Nutmeg books this year.

Construction Club using Legos will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m.  Children in Grades 1 and up may register.
 
Saturdays at the Library Movies: Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. – The  Muppet Movie. Bring your own comfy chair or blanket and snacks. Drop-in. All ages.

Nutmeg Marathon – Join Mrs. Mahoney, retired Griswold School Librarian in reading one of the nutmeg titles: The Potato Chip Puzzles. Beginning Tuesday, March 20 the group will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for two weeks to read along, play some of the puzzles, and talk about the book. Copies of the book will be available. Registration required – grades 4 and up. The group will meet Tuesday, March 20, Thursday, March 22, Tuesday, March 27, and Thursday March 29 at 4 p.m.
