Four Bear Sightings in Two Weeks in Region Including Berlin

Cheshire residents report two bears; two others in Berlin and Meriden.

Two bears recently seen in Cheshire were roaming on opposite sides of town, but both were black bears that were reported to state wildlife officials.

Cheshire Animal Control Officer April Leiler said a bear was seen Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Nathan Hill Court near Byam Road and the Waterbury border.

Another bear sighting was reported on June 4 on Birch Drive in the north-central side of Cheshire near the Southington town line, according to a resident who took pictures of the sighting.

A third bear was reported on Mohawk Drive in Kensington on Thursday evening. Here's what Anna Kipphut had to say about it:

"We were in the house looking out the window when we saw him slowly walk through the yard. We went on the deck and took photos. We have been living here many years and have seen all kinds of birds, reptiles and animals, but this is the first bear."
