Halloween Happenings 2012

Halloween Hay Bale Theater
Every Friday night in October, the Newington store's Garden Center tent is transformed into a Hay Bale Theater to show a free children's Halloween-themed movie. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Complimentary snacks and juice will be served. The movies begin at 7:00 P.M., with seating opening at 6:30 P.M. Kids can also dance to Halloween music with their favorite Stew's characters before the movie starts!

  • October 5, 2012: Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost
  • October 12, 2012: Alvin and the Chipmunks Halloween
  • October 19, 2012: Bugs Bunny's Howl-oween and Scared Shrekless
  • October 26, 2012: Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Kids Hay Maze
Kids of all ages will delight in Stew Leonard's Hay Maze in Newington, located under the tent in the Pumpkin Patch. The Hay Maze is open every day from 8:00 A.M. until dark. There will also be free face painting on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon-4 p.m.

Kids' Cooking Classes in Newington
Wicked Cupcakes class: Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Mummies, Owls and Eyeballs are just a few of the holiday themed cupcakes we have planned. Also, we will make a mummy hotdog treat for lunch. Cost is $25 per child for children aged 5-12 years old. Please register in advance at customer service.

Halloween Treats class: Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Create some ghoulishly good treats that play tricks with your eyes. Is it a cookie or a witch's finger? We will make fingers, bones and faces, and then wash it all down with a witches brew. Cost is $25 per child for children aged 5-12 years old. Please register in advance at customer service.

Trick-or-Treat with the Stew Leonard's Characters
On Monday, October 29, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., children are invited to dress up in their costumes and come to Stew Leonard's in Newington to go trick or treating throughout the store. Each department in the store will have a candy station for kids to stop at. Children must come with their own bags. Stew Leonard's famous characters, including mascot Wow the Cow, will be available for taking photos with the children.

Halloween Day Trick or Treat
On Halloween day, Wednesday, October 31, children wearing a costume at Stew Leonard's in Newington will receive a free small ice cream.
