Did You Get Fooled On April Fool's Day?

Berlin Little League parents were pranked by Vice President Vin Biscoglio.

April Fool's Day was a scary one for parents of Berlin Little Leaguers Monday morning. An e-mail went out to all parents of players signed up for any of the baseball or softball divisions from the BLL e-mail alert system.

The man behind the prank was League Vice President Vin Biscoglio.

Due to the sinkhole on Petit 2, all games this season will be played on Petit 1 and Garrity Field until the cause can be assessed by Berlin Town officials who have closed the field indefinitely. The sinkhole measures from halfway up the first base line to the outfield grass. Early indications from engineers that were dispatched to the scene is the sinkhole may have been caused from the drainage put in last year to the west side of the field.

The drainage was installed as an attempt to collect the rain water that would collect on the field after a hard rain. While there is evidence the drainage system works, there is hundreds of gallons of water that continue to run beneath the ground potentially causing the shift in the earth.

The town has called in additional engineers to assess the damage and cannot start filling the 43 foot hole until it is determined the field will be playable in the future.

As a precaution with the uncertainty of future play on the fields, President Bill Petit was scouting other areas of town to develop into Little League fields.

Teams that have practice on Petit 2 are still to report to Petit Complex for practice today as the cages and Petit 1 will be used.

Pictures will be posted to the BLL website, so check the web later today, April 1.

Biscoglio even went so far as to photo shop a very realistic looking large hole onto a photo of the field and posted it on the Berlin Little League website.

He said he had been inundated with e-mails and phone calls from parents trying to find out what happened.
