Did Someone Help You During/After the Storm?

Say Thank You on Patch

Did someone let you crash on their couch? Cook you a warm meal? Take care of your dog? Shovel you out? Let you watch your favorite TV show while your cable was out? Give you a ride?

Recognize the people that helped you after the Oct. 29 snowstorm that knocked out power to more than 80 percent of Berlin for several days.

My family of five and two large dogs crashed at my father-in-law's house. We lived on a generator until Halloween night, when the power came back on at around 5 p.m.

I have heard stories of neighbors lending extra parts to others so they could run their generators, friends welcoming others into their homes and families cooking for relatives who needed a hot meal.

Local municipalities and politicians did what they could to help as well. The emergency shelter at McGee School has fed more than 500 people, not counting today. That number will rise as neighborhoods in the Spruce Brook Drive area, the Main-Percival Ave-Robbins Road area and Lower Lane are all still without power. And don't forget all of East Berlin, which is still in the dark.

The Cromwell Diner on Wednesday night looked like a Hubbard School PTO meeting.

Who helped you during the storm? While you probably already thanked them for their hospitality or help already, give them that extra recognition by publically recognizing them and their good deed on Berlin Patch!

Leave your thank you in the comments below.
