Berlin Parks Program Continues To Go Strong Through Hot Summer

New way Parks and Recreation takes registrations has made for summer camp feel.

The summer sun has heated just about everybody up but children in the Berlin Parks and Recreation summer park program have found a way to stay cool with amazing programs.

"The way the Parks and Recreation is taking registration this year has helped us have a summer day camp feel instead of a drop-in program," said Park Supervisor Jack Rudy. "When I started, it was a deal where parents dropped off on certain days and not other days. Now we are taking registration on a weekly basis.

"That allows us and the staff to plan for activities and programs that are perfect for a certain number of kids. In years past, we might have a program that was perfect for 50 kids but only had 20 show up. Now we have a pretty good idea who will be at the parks from day to day."

The parks program is three weeks into its program and has 60 children attending both Pistol Creek and Griswold locations during every session. These past three weeks the parks have had an exciting variety of activities from “Welcome to summer” Tie-Dye to its “Science Week” where they made flubber and did science experiments with the children.

"We have also been having fun going to the Percival town pool each week," Rudy said. "In addition to our activities we go on some fun field trips around to local attractions."

The last week of the summer program both park sites will have a barbecue to celebrate the successful summer program.

Children still interested in attending can sign up for some of the limited openings at the Griswold site for the rest of summer.
