Berlin College Students Ask For Toy Donations Instead of Gifts For Themselves

Tess and Quinn McCurdy and Tim Cote collect gifts to throw Christmas Party for families served by Community Mental Health Affiliates in New Britain.

Volunteers, led by Tess and Quinn McCurdy and Tim Cote, are hosting a holiday party for 86 children and families served by Community Mental Health Affiliates in New Britain.

Last year they lost a dear friend, Ryan Lee. In memory of Ryan, they ask their families not for Christmas gifts, but instead donations in order to help throw this party.

CMHA is a private nonprofit provider of mental health and substance abuse treatment.  CMHA provides treatment for more than 7,300 children, adolescents, and adults each year.  Visit www.cmhacc.org to learn more.

Below is the letter the trio and their group sent to family and friends askig for donations.

Dear Friends,

Last year we lost a dear friend, Ryan T. Lee. In memory of Ryan we asked our families not to give us Christmas gifts, but to instead, give money to a local organization in memory of Ryan.

With these gifts we took on the project of providing a Christmas party for children and their families served by Community Mental Health Affiliates in New Britain. We received enough help from our families and friends in the form of donations and the volunteering of time that we were able to provide these needy families with a holiday dinner, gift bags (loaded with toys, scarves, hats, gloves, and lots of other surprises). Entertainment was provided by the volunteers, Jingles the Clown, and a visit from Santa.

We would like to continue the spirit of giving this year and are reaching out to you and the community for help with donations. If you would like to help, below is a list of things that are needed.

WISH LIST

  • New or very gently used children’s books
  • Gift Cards
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • ToysRus

Donations: Karen Cote, 70 West Lane, Berlin, CT 06037; Phone: 860-828-3363

Since we are still away at school, we ask that donations be sent to Tim’s mom. She will hold the donations until we get home in early December when we will do all the shopping for the toys and we will be helped by volunteers to get everything rolling.

We thank you for your support and kindness.
