Berlin Bears Cheer Teams Win Titles

Another successful year for the cheerleaders.

Beginning back in the early weeks of August, Berlin Bears A team cheerleaders began their practices with an intensity and desire to win and be the best that they could possibly be.

Coaches Dawn Gorneault and Rebecca Arscott knew that the 14 girls on their squad were headed for a great season. They quickly learned the dance portion of their routine with in the first three weeks of practice. Throughout the next five to six weeks, the girls worked three times a week at their two-hour practices towards the perfection of their routine. These girls worked hard at every practice and it proved to be successful.

In October, the A team took home the first place trophy at the CTYFL League Competition. After getting feedback from the judges, they returned to practice to increase the difficulty in their routine.

On Nov. 12, the team traveled to Boston to compete in their regional competition at the New England Cheer and Dance Competition, and they took home yet another first place trophy. One week later on November 19, the girls took the mat to compete at the CTYFL State Competition.

With two first place trophies under their belt, the pressure to take a third trophy was high. The girls took the mat and gave it 110%. Their routine was nearly flawless and highly entertaining. At the end of the day, They took home another first place trophy and would later find out that they ultimately received the highest score overall for the whole day of competition.

Coach Dawn and Coach Becca had expected nothing less from this squad. "When you take a great group of girls, who are strong cheerleaders and excellent athletes, you get a great season. These girls earned those trophies with every ounce of sweat and tears this season. Congratulations on a perfect season. Three for three. We couldn’t have asked for more."

The B team has had a lot of success this season. The first competition of the season was at Leagues, which we placed third. Facing much harder competition at Regionals in Boston we placed fourth.  But with hard work and determination they we're able to complete their goal of first place at State Championships.
