A Brick In The Foundation

Veteran's Park will use bricks purchased by residents and town veterans.

The Town Council has paved the way for a “Veteran’s Memorial Brick Fund” to be established. The fund will allow for the purchase and engraving of bricks that will surround the monuments at Veterans Memorial Park.

Members of the community will have the opportunity to honor veterans by purchasing bricks on which the veteran’s name will be engraved. Proceeds from the brick sales will be used by the Veterans Commission to maintain the monuments and the park.

Veteran Commission Chairman Tom Chesery explained that many veterans who live in Berlin don’t qualify to have their names on plaques or monuments in town because they were not Berlin residents when they entered the service. This restriction will not apply to the bricks at Veterans Memorial Park.

Any veteran who qualifies can have their name engraved on one of the bricks around the monument. Bricks will cost $80. The date when bricks will be available has not yet been announced, but it will likely coincide with the official opening of the park in April or May.
