YWCA New Britain’s 19th Annual Dinner and Auction is scheduled for Friday, November 9, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Hawthorne Inn in Berlin.
Each year at the event, the YWCA presents an award to a local family in appreciation of their dedication and service to the YWCA and the New Britain community. This year’s “old Hollywood” style event will honor the Story family of New Britain and Berlin. All members of the Story family--Bob and Sandy Story, Kris Story and Robert O’Donnell, Rob and Laura Martin, Dean and Kate Spilka, and Manny Story--have greatly contributed to the YWCA and the community at large for many years.
YWCA Executive Director Robin Sharp says, “I’ve had the honor of knowing the Story family for many years, and working with Laura, Kris and Kate in their volunteer leadership roles at the YWCA. The closeness of their family can’t help but strike anyone who knows them, and their shared commitment to giving back and making their schools and communities a better place obviously was instilled by their parents' example. Bob and Sandy have set an amazing example that is being carried on by their children and is sure to continue with their grandchildren.”
The event will also feature many exciting new auction items such as an African safari, wine school, week stay in Maine, weekend on the farm, behind-the-scenes news station tour, and dessert party--among others.
Tickets for the event are $85 per person and include open bar and a vodka tasting during cocktail hour and the silent auction. Dinner, raffle, and live auction portions of the program will follow.

Proceeds from the Dinner and Auction help fund important YWCA programs including job training for certified nurse assistants; quality, affordable childcare; support for at-risk families; health and fitness; sexual assault crisis services and prevention education; and youth enrichment and leadership development for middle school girls.
