Youth Sports: All-Stars In District Final

Twelve-year olds will play Friday night for banner.

Berlin powered through Farmington Monday night at Recreation Park in Southington 18-9.

Alan Guild and Kevin Roy hit two home runs each for Berlin D5 12. Guild went 2-4 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Guild homered in the second and sixth innings.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 27 runs and 33 hits, including 16 extra base hits.

Berlin D5 12 blew out Farmington thanks to 23 hits, including 10 extra base hits. Berlin D5 12 scored five runs in the second on a home run by Jack Lynch, a home run by Alex Dastoli, a home run by Roy, and a two-run home run by Guild.

Jeff Mezzanotti had three extra-base hits for Farmington. Mezzanotti doubled in the first and second innings and homered in the fourth inning.

Berlin D5 12 pounded Farmington pitching, as seven hitters combined for 18 hits, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Additional home runs for Berlin D5 12 came when Joe Konowski homered in the third inning, Roy homered in the second and fifth innings, and Guild homered in the second and sixth innings.

Konowski had great control, as he threw strikes on 57 of his 90 pitches. Konowski collected six strike outs and walked two for Berlin D5 12.
 
Berlin will play the winner of the Farmington/Edgewood game Friday Night for the District Championship Banner.  Farmington and Edgewood play in the elimination game at Petit Complex Wednesday at 5:45.
